Overview

Welcome to Glasgow's Walking & Subway tour, aka the Clockwork Orange Ramble, where we wander through Glasgow's best bits and use Glasgow's victorian subway to speed up the bits in between. This tour strikes the perfect combination of walking; getting up close and also being able to see much more of the city than just a walking tour. This tour is perfect for anyone. Whether you are small bunch of friends; a family; a corporate group or hen or stag this is a great option. It works great on a rainy day and excels on a sunny day. For people staying in the west end, we may be able to start the tour there and finish in the city. Either way, the Clockwork Orange "shoogle" makes the journey easy. It's "only" the 3rd oldest underground in the world. This can be a private tour, where we can take detours to include a special interest…just let us know. Have a wee “shifty” (Glesga for “look”) below and see how much you can see, without being stuck in traffic! Come on, let's Glas-go!

What's included

  • Your own very cool local guide
  • This tasty treat has only been around Glasgow for 150 years, ours are within their best before date.
  • We'll be taking a shoogly journey on the Clockwork Orange (Glasgow's Underground) price included.
  • Exploring on foot

    Itinerary

    1. 1

      Glasgow Cathedral

      20 min

Now come on, who doesn't like a 1000 year old building?

    2. 2

      Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

      15 min

This is grand with a capital "G". And a snip at £257,000 to build. Roughly the price of a 2 bedroom flat in the west end now. That was 1901 to be fair!

    3. 3

      Glasgow West End

      25 min

None other than the sheeshy west end (chichy if you can read and write). Ask around and locals will probably tell you that's where the snobs live. And they might have a point. You can't deny the beauty though...of the place that is, not the people!

    4. 4

      Stop 4

      25 min

This is what you think of, when someone says they are stepping back in time to Victorian times and cobbled streets.

    5. 5

      People's Palace and Winter Gardens

      15 min

Can you imagine trying to stop Glasgowegians drinking???well the brave or foolish council thought they might be able to do that, by giving the Glasgow locals an alternative to the pub...good luck with that one! (This is an optional stop for fast walkers)

    6. 6

      University of Glasgow

      20 min

The most beuatiful campus you are likely to see. Built for 1870 and no, Harry Potter doesn't still live here. You might see him though.

    7. 7

      Kelvingrove Park

      15 min

With over 95 parks it is no wonder that Glasgow translates as Dear Green Place. This is probably the best of the lot hosting the river Kelvin and beautiful walkways.

    8. 8

      George Square

      15 min

Right in the heart of Glasgow, George Square is home to the City Chambers, Glasgow Council's HQ. A fantastically ornate building in side and out, sometimes acting as film double for the Vatican.

    9. 9

      Stop 9

      10 min

The Botanic gardens in Glasgow's west-end is another beautiful green space and well worth a look on the way to other parts of the West-end. The Kibble palace is additional surprise.

    Meeting and pickup

Byres Road is in the heart of the West-end and we may be able to meet guests here if no one has already booked onto the tour starting at Glasgow Cathedral.

From George Square head eastwards along George Street, which becomes Duke Street and when you get to the corner of High street, turn left up High Street and Glasgow Cathedral is on your right hand side. In some cases we might meet in the West-end, where someone has already booked onto the tour.

    End point

The tour will finish at George Square in the heart of Glasgow, right next to Buchanan Street underground station if a West-End start is requested.

Ashton Lane is in the heart of the West-end and is very close to Hillhed underground. We will always finish close an underground station, allowing guests to spend more time there or quickly travel to another point of interest.
