Overview

Downtown Dallas carries some of the darkest history in America. This self-guided audio tour takes you through it on your own schedule, with narration on your phone at every stop. Start at the Old Red Museum and Dealey Plaza, where President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and hear the theories that still surround the grassy knoll. Walk past the reputedly haunted Adolphus Hotel and quirky landmarks like the Giant Eyeball, step into historic Pioneer Park Cemetery, and finish with the Illuminati legends of Reunion Tower. No group, no guide, and no fixed start time. Go at your own pace, stop for a drink along the way, and replay any story you like. All you need is a phone and headphones.

Itinerary

  1. 1

Dealey Plaza National Historic Landmark District

    25 min

Start outside the Old Red Museum, the red sandstone 1892 courthouse said to be haunted, then cross into Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. Your audio guide walks you past the grassy knoll and the theories that still surround that day, then on to the JFK Memorial a block away.

  2. 2

    Giant Eyeball

    20 min

Wind through the historic West End and past the Adolphus Hotel, the 1912 landmark built by beer baron Adolphus Busch and long reputed to be one of the most haunted hotels in Texas, to the 30-foot Giant Eyeball staring down Main Street. Your audio guide shares the ghost stories and oddities of downtown along the way.

  3. 3

    Pioneer Park Cemetery

    15 min

Step into Pioneer Park Cemetery, one of the oldest burial grounds in Dallas, hidden in the middle of downtown beside the convention center. Your audio guide tells the stories of the city's earliest residents buried here and the restless spirits some visitors claim to have met among the old headstones.

  4. 4

    Reunion Tower

    10 min

Viewed from outside. The tour does not go in. Finish within view of Reunion Tower, the lit-up ball that has crowned the Dallas skyline since 1978, as your audio guide dives into the Illuminati conspiracy theories that have grown up around it. Observation deck tickets are not part of the tour.
