Overview

Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Iztaccíhuatl volcano on a private hike to Los Diamantes Waterfall. Start early in the morning with a comfortable SUV transfer to Dos Aguas Ecotourism Park. After a quick check-in, begin a 10-km (6.2-mile) hike through forests and across streams. Reaching the waterfall takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Enjoy a well-deserved break with a boxed lunch and freshly prepared coffee before beginning the approximately two-hour descent. This private experience is designed for groups of up to four people, allowing for a personalized pace and breaks when needed. We will also make a stop for a meal, for which we recommend the town of San Rafael. Food and drinks during this stop are at each traveler’s own expense. Pickup from your hotel in Querétaro between 4:00 and 4:30 AM. 10-km (6.2-mile) round-trip hike lasting approximately 5 to 6 hours. Safety equipment, boxed lunch, and freshly prepared coffee at the waterfall included. Private tour for groups of 1 to 4 travelers, with a total duration of approximately 14 hours.

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Parque Ecoturistico Dos Aguas

    30 min

Dos Aguas Ecotourism Park is located in San Rafael, Tlalmanalco, on the slopes of the Iztaccíhuatl volcano. It is the main access point to the area’s hiking trails, waterfalls, and forest landscapes. Its surroundings combine mountain forest, streams, ravines, and rock formations. The hike to Los Diamantes Waterfall begins at the park and requires a moderate level of physical fitness. In addition to serving as an entrance and checkpoint, the park offers areas where visitors can rest and enjoy the natural surroundings before or after the hike.

  2. 2

    Cascada de los Diamantes

    1 hour

Los Diamantes Waterfall is located on the slopes of the Iztaccíhuatl volcano, near San Rafael in the municipality of Tlalmanalco, State of Mexico. Its approximately 110-meter (360-foot) drop descends between rock formations and mountain forest vegetation. Reaching the waterfall requires hiking along a trail with stream crossings, slopes, and some rocky sections. Its name, which means “The Diamonds,” comes from the sparkling effect created when sunlight reflects off the water as it flows over the rock walls. Water levels and trail conditions vary by season, so the landscape may look different on each visit.

  3. 3

    Stop 3

    1 hour

After the hike, we may make an optional stop in San Rafael, a community in the municipality of Tlalmanalco, State of Mexico, at the foot of the Iztaccíhuatl volcano. We recommend visiting the local market, where the group can find traditional food stalls offering cecina and other regional dishes. This stop provides an opportunity to rest and experience a glimpse of daily life in the community before returning to Querétaro. The stop will last no longer than one hour. Food and drinks purchased during this visit are not included and must be paid for directly by each traveler.

Meeting and pickup

The group will be picked up from the selected meeting point and returned to the same location at the end of the tour. Pickup from specific hotels may also be arranged with advance notice.
