In the 20th century, entrepreneur and explorer Guido Monzino acquired the villa, enriching it with memorabilia from his expeditions and bequeathing it to the FAI in 1988. Today, Villa del Balbianello is open to the public and hosts events, weddings and film productions such as "Star Wars" and "James Bond Casino Royale".
