Paris Hidden Passages Walking Tour

Discover how Paris helped transform shopping from a necessity into an experience on a guided walk through the Palais-Royal and four historic covered passages. Follow the story from elegant arcades and early window-shopping to luxury branding, advertising, department stores and the entertainment-led shopping spaces we know today.

1. 1

   La Comedie Francaise

   Pass by

Meet your guide outside the Comédie-Française on Place Colette, then enter the Palais-Royal. Discover how a princely residence developed commercial arcades where shops, cafés, theatres, gambling and public life encouraged Parisians to stay, stroll and spend time.

2. 2

   Galerie Vero-Dodat

   Pass by

Walk to Galerie Véro-Dodat and examine how floor patterns, repeated shopfronts, glass and decoration create an impression of depth and refinement. Hear the unexpected story of the two businessmen whose names made the gallery sound more aristocratic than its origins.

3. 3

   Galerie Vivienne

   Pass by

Decode symbols of wealth and commerce, admire the mosaics and consider how a commercial promenade became a place to see new fashions and to be seen by others.

4. 4

   Passage Choiseul

   Pass by

Enter a passage that feels like a Parisian street placed under glass. Compare it with Galerie Vivienne and discover how theatre, books and practical businesses brought covered shopping to a wider public.

5. 5

   Passage des Panoramas

   Pass by

Reach Passage des Panoramas by way of the Grands Boulevards. Use the historical plaques and Théâtre des Variétés to connect shopping with mass entertainment. Inside, explore the panorama story, restaurants and collectors' businesses, then enjoy ten minutes of independent discovery before the final recap.
