Outrigger Canoe Initiation in Moorea

The outrigger canoe initiation offers an engaging introduction to this traditional Polynesian sport, set against the stunning backdrop of Moorea's turquoise lagoon. Participants will learn the fundamentals of paddling and navigating while enjoying the pristine waters in a shared group of up to eight. This accessible experience welcomes all, ensuring everyone can partake in the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Over the course of about two hours, we’ll introduce you to the va’a (outrigger canoe)—more than just a national sport, it’s a Polynesian way of life. After a brief technical and historical overview, we’ll go paddling in Cook’s Bay and give you a firsthand experience of Polynesian mana and the concept of TAHOE—the harmony among paddlers and between them and their environment. We’ll let you experience the joy of gliding across the crystal-clear waters of Moorea’s lagoon. This activity is open to everyone, regardless of fitness level—we’ll adapt to your needs. The location of the excursion and introductory session may change depending on weather conditions and the wind-protected coastline.
