Mt. Longonot Hike & Lake Naivasha Boat Ride Day Trip from Nairobi

The park itself covers only 52 sq km and was set up to protect the volcano’s ecosystem and little else. The name ‘Longonot’ comes from the Maasai name Olo Nongot, which means ‘Mountain of Many Summits’ .

   Have a stop-over at the Rift Valley view point for a little break, take photographs and enjoy the view. You can also choose to purchase souvenirs at the shops located near the stop-over.

   Mount Longonot National Park

   7 hours

   Depart Nairobi early in the morning and drive through the scenic Great Rift Valley to Mount Longonot National Park, arriving while temperatures are still cool for the hike. Begin your ascent through volcanic landscapes to the crater rim, where sweeping views open up across the forested crater and Lake Naivasha in the distance, with chances of spotting wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, and buffaloes along the lower slopes. After completing the hike and descending, continue to Lake Naivasha for a relaxed lunch at a lakeside restaurant (own cost). In the afternoon, enjoy a guided boat ride on Lake Naivasha, gliding past hippos and abundant birdlife, including fish eagles and pelicans, while learning about the lake’s unique ecosystem. Later in the day, depart Naivasha and return to Nairobi, arriving in the early evening after a rewarding blend of adventure and wildlife.
