Overview

Miyajima is one of Japan’s most iconic destinations, known for its sacred atmosphere, beautiful nature and famous Great Torii Gate, which appears to float on the sea. On this private six-hour tour, explore the island with a local guide born and raised in Hiroshima while discovering its history, traditions and connection with nature. Visit the Great Torii Gate, UNESCO-listed Itsukushima Shrine and peaceful Daishoin Temple. Along the way, your guide will share the history, traditions and beliefs behind the island’s beautiful scenery, helping you discover more than the famous sights alone. As this is a fully private tour, you can walk at your own pace and spend more time at the places that interest you. Lunch is usually enjoyed on Miyajima, with help from your guide in finding a restaurant that suits your tastes. Before the tour, we will send you a recommended itinerary and discuss any requests you may have.

    Itsukushima

    1 hour

Travel from central Hiroshima to Miyajima by public transportation. From Hiroshima Station, the usual route by JR train and ferry takes about 50–60 minutes. Depending on your meeting point, schedule and preferences, your guide will help you choose the most suitable route. Your guide will travel with you from the meeting point, so you can simply enjoy the journey without worrying about finding the right train or ferry. Transportation fares between Hiroshima and Miyajima are not included in the tour price.

  2. 2

    Itsukushima Shrine Torii

    20 min

See Miyajima’s most iconic landmark, the great torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. At high tide, it appears to float on the sea, while at low tide, you may be able to walk closer to it. Its appearance changes throughout the day with the tides, weather and light.

  3. 3

    Itsukushima Shrine

    30 min

Visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Itsukushima Shrine, famous for its elegant vermilion buildings built over the sea. Walk through its corridors while learning about the shrine’s history, distinctive architecture and deep connection with the island.

  4. 4

    Daishoin Temple

    1 hour

A personal favorite of your guide, Daishoin is a peaceful temple at the foot of Mount Misen. With beautiful wooden halls and charming, uniquely expressive statues, this hidden gem often exceeds visitors’ expectations. Many guests leave with a smile, saying it was one of their favorite stops.

  5. 5

    Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street

    1.2 hours

A lively street lined with local crafts, snacks, restaurants and souvenir shops. We usually have lunch on Miyajima, and your guide can help you find a restaurant that suits your tastes.
