Kotzebue Arctic ATV Permafrost Adventure

Get ready for the ultimate Arctic immersion! Swap the standard tour bus for an exhilarating ATV ride in Kotzebue. Led by a renowned Inuit storyteller and expert guide, this tour takes you deep into the heart of Qikiqtaġruk (meaning "almost an island"). You won’t just look at the Arctic—you’ll feel it. Touch ancient permafrost, learn the art of wild animal calling, sit on an arctic beach while listening to Inuit stories, learn about Inuit games, and taste a morsel from the land and/or sea.    Stop 1

   1 hour

   Starting at Modern Inuk Headquarters on the Kotzebue Sound, your guide will share about Kotzebue as a transportation miracle. After an ATV safety brief, all drivers and riders will be fitted for helmets and you’ll be on your way. Your guide will take you to notable stops in Kotzebue before heading to the tundra along the “Loop Road” behind town.

   Kotzebue

   1 hour

   You’ll stop to experience the tundra (flora and fauna, permafrost, berries) and hear stories of our history as hunter and gatherers of The Alaskan Arctic. Your guide will share and teach animal and bird calls. Take a ride along the coastline and stop to enjoy the amazing views of the “ocean” (Kotzebue Sound) and sample “paniqtaq”, dried snacks from the land and sea. Your guide will share the about early explorers and other historical stories of the Iñupiat of Qikiqtaġruk.

• Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
• Age requirement 8+
• Not recommended for travelers who have a difficult time with inclement weather, bumpy rides, or walking on uneven ground.
