Overview

Welcome to this immersive travel experience! On this tour we will tour Hiroshima and Miyajima on foot and using the best public transport system in the world. Ready to visit two of Japan’s cultural and historical sites? We will meet at Hiroshima Station. Once we are all there, we will visit the Hiroshima Peace Monument. In this place we will find an extensive memorial park with exhibitions and buildings that pay tribute to the victims of this bloody episode of World War II. Notable among them is Genbaku's famous Dome, which recalls the impact of the atomic bomb. You will then have free time to eat, on your own, at an area restaurant. The tour will continue to Miyajimaguchi Pier. There, we board a ferry to Miyajima Island. In a few minutes we will arrive at our destination to walk through the Itsukushima Shrine, the Grand Torii, the Goju-no-to Pagoda and the Toyokuni Temple.

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Stop 1

    1 hour

The tour begins by heading to the Peace Memorial Park, a space dedicated to remembering the victims of the 1945 atomic bombing and promoting a message of peace. During the walk, we will see several commemorative monuments, such as the Cenotaph for the Victims of the Atomic Bomb, the Flame of Peace, and the Monument to Children for Peace, inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki. As we walk through the park, we will learn how Hiroshima was rebuilt after the war and the meaning of the different memorials that are part of this important place today.

  2. 2

    Atomic Bomb Dome

    30 min

We will visit the Atomic Bomb Dome (Genbaku Dome), one of the most emblematic monuments in Hiroshima and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Preserved in the state it was after the 1945 explosion, this building has become an international symbol of peace and nuclear disarmament. From its surroundings, we can observe its structure, learn the history of the old Hiroshima Industrial Promotion Palace, and understand the impact the atomic bombing had on the city and its inhabitants.

  3. 3

    Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

    1 hour

We will leave free time for you to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on your own, which is dedicated to explaining the events of August 6, 1945, and their consequences for the city and its inhabitants. Through photographs, personal objects, testimonies, and historical exhibitions, we will learn about the human impact of the atomic bombing and the reconstruction process of Hiroshima. The visit allows for a better understanding of the historical context of this event and the message of peace that the city promotes today.

  4. 4

    Stop 4

    1 hour

Then we will go to Miyajima Island, where we will visit the Itsukushima Shrine, one of the most famous places in Japan and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built on the water, this sanctuary is known for its large floating torii, which seems to rise above the sea during high tide. We will tour its gates and pavilions while discovering the history of the sanctuary, its importance in Shintoism, and the close relationship between the island of Miyajima and traditional Japanese beliefs.

  5. 5
