Overview

All aboard the Hogwarts Express! From the gates of Trinity College, embark on an enchanting Harry Potter experience with your witch or wizard guide. Receive your wands, and be sorted into Hogwarts Houses, before a visit to Oxford's own Flourish & Blotts. Enter the Bodleian Library Divinity School, where Harry was visited by Dumbledore in The Philosopher’s Stone. Wander through the medieval corridors of New College (founded in 1379), following the footsteps of Hogwarts students in the films. See the oldest dining hall in Oxford, where students have been eating in gowns for almost 650 years. Stand under the tree where Draco Malfoy tried to curse Harry Potter—but ended up transfigured into a ferret! Gaze at the windows of the Restricted Section of Hogwarts, where real-life books were also chained to the shelves. Dance where Professor McGonagall taught Ron Weasley how to waltz in The Goblet of Fire. Test your knowledge in our Harry Potter quiz along the way!

What's included

  • New College + Divinity School of the Bodleian Library (Harry Potter Filming Locations)
  • Christ Church (contrary to popular myth, the dining hall was not used for filming Harry Potter) + Duke Humfrey's reading room of the Bodleian Library (entrance limited to University members)

Itinerary

  1. 1

    New College

    30 min

Founded in 1379, New College is a famous filming location for the Harry Potter movies. In addition to its gothic cloister and quad, which feature in The Goblet of Fire, New College contains the oldest dining hall in the University, a perfectly-preserved section of Oxford's 800 year-old city wall, and one of the most beautiful college chapels in either Oxford or Cambridge.

  2. 2

    Bodleian Library

    20 min

Enter the medieval Divinity School of the Bodleian Library (completed in 1488), a filming location in several of the Harry Potter movies. Gaze around the library's Old Schools Quadrangle, dating back to the 1600s, and featuring the subjects of Oxford's ancient curriculum. While entrance to the library reading rooms is strictly limited to Oxford University members, we will show you the exterior of Duke Humfrey's Library (the Restricted Section of Hogwarts) and the famous Radcliffe Camera.

  3. 3

    Sheldonian Theatre

    Pass by

Oxford's neoclassical Sheldonian Theatre (1669), masterpiece of Christopher Wren. The building where Oxford students are officially welcomed into to the University -- and where you will be sorted into Houses and given your wands!

  4. 4

    Weston Library

    5 min

Home to most of the University's special collections -- as well as a 16th-century 'Marauder's Map' of Oxfordshire, and a 17th-century printing press. Opportunity for a short toilet break.

  5. 5

    Blackwell's Bookshop

    5 min

Oxford's very own Flourish and Blotts! Blackwell's is home to the famous Norrington Room, a vast underground cavern with over three miles of shelving -- the most in a single room of any bookshop in the world.

  6. 6

    Bridge of Sighs

    Pass by

Perhaps Oxford's most famous landmark, hear about the 400 year-old inspiration behind Hertford College's iconic Bridge of Sighs -- and the thematic links to the Prison of Azkaban!

  7. 7

    All Souls College

    Pass by

The only college in Oxford even harder to get in to than Hogwarts! Could you pass the "hardest examination in the world" to gain admission? (Or, failing that, can you solve the final question of our Harry Potter quiz...)
