Full Day São Jorge Island Guided Van Tour

São Jorge is approximately 60 km long but only around 8 km wide, creating an extraordinary landscape where volcanic highlands, steep cliffs and the Atlantic are never far apart. Rather than following a rigid itinerary, this tour is adapted to the day’s weather and local conditions so you can experience the island at its best. Travel with a knowledgeable guide and discover not only São Jorge’s main sights, but also the geology, ecosystems, traditions and human history behind them. Lunch, visits and transportation are included, and when conditions allow, the day can also include swimming or snorkeling in the island’s clear coastal waters. With a maximum of 8 participants, the experience remains personal and flexible.

   Faja dos Cubres

   One of São Jorge’s best-known coastal fajãs, formed by material descending from the towering cliffs of the north coast. See its distinctive coastal lagoon, part of the only lagoon system of its kind in the Azores, and learn how earthquakes and erosion have continually reshaped this remarkable landscape.

   Piscina Natural da Faja do Ouvidor

   45 min

   Descend to one of the largest lava-formed fajãs on São Jorge’s north coast. Explore the volcanic shoreline and visit Poça Simão Dias, an iconic natural pool surrounded by striking basalt formations. When weather and sea conditions permit, this may also provide an opportunity for a refreshing swim.

   Parque Florestal das Sete Fontes

   30 min

   Walk through one of São Jorge’s largest forest parks, covering approximately 12 hectares of lush vegetation. Discover paths surrounded by cryptomeria trees, ferns and hydrangeas, together with streams, ponds and natural springs that showcase another side of the island’s rich and varied landscape.
