Itinerary

  1. 1

    Nara Park

    45 min

Discover Nara Park, one of Japan's most recognizable historic and natural attractions. Explore the spacious parklands and observe the free-roaming deer that have become a symbol of Nara. Enjoy a relaxing walk, take photographs and admire the beautiful surroundings, where wildlife and traditional Japanese architecture coexist. Guests may purchase special deer crackers from local vendors at their own expense. Important Wildlife Safety Notice: Nara's deer are wild animals and may behave unpredictably. They may bite, kick or charge, especially during mating and breeding seasons. Do not chase, tease or attempt to ride the deer. Children must remain under adult supervision. Only designated deer crackers may be offered. Feeding ordinary food is prohibited. Close interaction, deer feeding and specific photography opportunities cannot be guaranteed.

  2. 2

    Todai-ji Temple

    1 hour

Visit Todai-ji, one of Japan's most important Buddhist temples and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara. Admire the magnificent Great Buddha Hall, famous for its monumental wooden architecture and enormous bronze Buddha statue. Explore the temple's accessible areas, discover the impressive Buddhist artwork and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this historic religious landmark. The Great Buddha Hall requires a separate admission ticket. Guests explore the temple independently. The English-speaking driver-cum-guide may provide basic ticket information and directions but does not provide professional historical commentary or guided visits inside the temple. Other paid temple buildings and museum exhibitions are not automatically included.

  3. 3

    Stop 3

    1.2 hours

Explore Naramachi, a charming historic neighborhood known for its narrow streets, traditional merchant houses and local atmosphere. Walk through the old town and admire the architecture of preserved Japanese townhouses that reflect Nara's cultural heritage. Discover small independent shops, traditional craft stores, local cafés and historic buildings. Enjoy time for photographs, souvenir shopping or a short break at a local café. Naramachi offers a different experience from Nara's famous temples and deer park, allowing visitors to discover the city's traditional residential and commercial streets. Some museums, historic houses and galleries require separate admission tickets or have limited opening hours.

  4. 4

    Stop 4

    1.5 hours

Travel to Horyu-ji Temple in Ikaruga, one of Japan's most significant Buddhist heritage destinations. Discover the historic temple complex, celebrated for its remarkably preserved early Buddhist architecture and cultural treasures. Admire the impressive five-story pagoda and the main hall within the Western Precinct. Depending on available time and access conditions, guests may also explore the Great Treasure Gallery and the Eastern Precinct. Horyu-ji forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Buddhist Monuments in the Horyu-ji Area. Enjoy time to appreciate the traditional wooden buildings, peaceful temple grounds and remarkable cultural heritage. Horyu-ji is located outside central Nara City and requires additional driving time. It is not within walking distance of Nara Park or Naramachi.
