Overview

Namba is for tourists. Umeda is where the locals go. Umeda is a huge, modern district packed with shopping, food, business, and entertainment. Beneath it lies an enormous underground city—a maze so complex that even locals sometimes get lost. That’s why it’s known as the “Umeda Dungeon.” Let’s explore this fascinating maze together, discover hidden gems that are easy to miss, and enjoy some of the local snacks and foods that people in Osaka actually love—such as pork buns, yakisoba, fruit sandwiches, flavorful dashi-based udon, curry bread, and more. I’ll also show you some of my favorite restaurants and shopping spots, while sharing stories about how Osaka grew into the vibrant city it is today. Umeda is often overlooked by visitors. This is your chance to see the modern side of Osaka that locals experience every day—not just the famous sights, but the places where people shop, eat, work, and spend their time.

Meeting and pickup

It says TRAVEL SERVICE CENTER on the ground floor of Osaka Station. From the JR Central Gate, you’ll see the green ticket office across from you. The travel center is right next to it. If you come by JR, DO NOT take the escalator UP from the platform. USE ONLY THE CENTRAL EXIT. I wear a pink scarf.
