The Island is full of unique ecosystems, deep history, and an ecological community that has been woven together for thousands of years through the interplay of humans and ecology. Old growth forest, salmon bearing streams, indigenous midens, oyster beds, estuaries, and novel European eco systems - these will be our classroom for a two hour guided walk and talk exploring the ways humans have interacted with this Island for thousands of years. We will consider how humans are intricately interwoven into the landscape, and are an integral part of the biodiversity that we cherish. After exploring ethnobotany, systems theory, climate science, and learning some new plant facts, you’ll leave with a new understanding and appreciation of your place in the world.
