Overview

We run the Peninsula in a 13-seater minibus with a registered local guide who lives in Cape Town, not a 60-seat coach. Small groups mean we reach Hout Bay and Boulders ahead of the crowds, and there is time to walk and look rather than just photograph from the roadside. You choose between a seat on the shared departure or the whole vehicle to yourselves.

What's included

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off
  • Bottled water
  • Air-conditioned vehicle
  • Chapman's Peak toll and all road fees
  • Registered local tour guide
  • Cape of Good Hope conservation fee, paid at the gate on the day. South African and SADC residents pay a reduced rate on production of ID and will be paid on site
  • Boulders Beach penguin colony entry, paid at the gate on the day. South African and SADC residents pay a reduced rate on production of ID and will be paid on site
  • Flying Dutchman funicular at Cape Point - optional and can be paid on site. You can also walk up to the lighthouse
  • Lunch and drinks - there is a restaurant at Cape Point and options in Hout Bay and Simon's Town

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Hout Bay

    30 min

A working fishing harbour under the Sentinel peak, and our first stop of the morning before the coaches arrive. Watch the seals around the boats, browse the craft market, or add an optional boat trip out to the Duiker Island seal colony at your own cost.

  2. 2

    Chapman's Peak Drive

    20 min

One of the finest coastal roads in the country - 114 bends blasted into the cliff face between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. We stop at the viewpoints for photographs. The toll is covered in your fare.

  3. 3

    Cape of Good Hope

    45 min

Stand at the south-western tip of Africa where two oceans meet. Your guide walks you to the Cape of Good Hope sign for photographs and points out the baboons, eland and ostrich that roam the reserve.

  4. 4

    Cape Point

    1.5 hours

Ride the Flying Dutchman funicular or walk the path up to the old lighthouse for views over False Bay and the Atlantic. There is time for lunch at the restaurant or a guided walk down to the Cape of Good Hope.

  5. 5

    Boulders Beach Penguin Colony

    1 hour

Walk the boardwalk above one of only two mainland African penguin colonies. The birds nest in the dune scrub a few metres from the path, and your guide explains the conservation work that brought the colony back from near collapse.
