Acropolis Food Tour with a Local Friend

Step into the heart of Athens and explore Koukaki, one of the city’s most charming and authentic neighborhoods – not as a tourist, but as a local. This isn’t just a food tour; it’s a walk through my own story. I was born and raised in Koukaki, and I still call it home. Through this experience, I’ll show you what life is really like here – past the guidebooks and into the real, everyday rhythms of the city. We’ll sip wine the way locals do, and pop into beloved family-run eateries, bakeries, and delis that have stood the test of time. You’ll taste local favorites, hear the stories behind the recipes, and meet the people who make this neighborhood so special. Koukaki sits just under the Acropolis, yet it remains a true local hub – full of character, creativity, and community spirit. As we walk, I’ll share personal anecdotes, hidden gems, and the lesser-known history of the area, giving you a deeper understanding of Athens’ local culture – all while we snack, sip, and stroll.

   Koukaki District

   We will explore Olympiou Street, the lively pedestrian area with all the bars and restaurants in the most local district in downtown Athens, Koukaki. We will try a souvlaki or gyros at my favorite local grill place.

   Koukaki District

   We will try another typical Greek savory snack, which is of course the phyllo pastry pies. The bakery is a local family-run business where I buy my bread and pies for more than 20 years. We will also have meze dishes at a local Greek Taverna (Mousaka, Tzatziki, Greek Salad, Gemista) and share local wine like locals do.

   Koukaki District

   30 min

   We will head towards a local microbrewery, where I will offer you a Greek local beer. This place has beers that you can usually find on Greek islands.

   Acropolis

   30 min

   Of couse we will finish the evening with one of my favorite Greek desserts. I will walk you also to the finishing point which is Akropolis metro station and I will show you the beautiful pedestrian street of Makrigianni and Apostolou Pavlou, where we will have the chance to enjoy Acropolis lit! Perfect way to finish the night!

   Plaka

   30 min

   We will visit the oldest neighborhood of Athens, Plaka and stroll around the picturesque little streets. We will finish our evening with a shot of a local Greek drink at the oldest distellery of Athens.
